Reviews for Garmin nüvi 750 Automobile Navigator
4.3" Active Matrix TFT Color LCD - MPN: 0100065720
Nuvi 750 GPS
Strengths: Slim, Widescreen, Garmin maps, Multi-point routing
Weakness: none
This is a very nice GPS unit from Garmin. As usual their maps are excellent. Apart from the nice big 4.3" widescreen (which is plenty bright) this unit has some high end features like Multi-point routing (can plan a route thru multiple destination points) not found on the Nuvi 350/360. although it doesnt have the Bluetooth, the unit design is stylish and slim.

TopGarmin Nuvi 750
Strengths: The Garmin Nuvi 750 was easy to set up and use out of the box. The widesrceen is easy to see and read while driving.
Weakness: The voice prompt directions in any language sound a little tinny.
I would recommend this to anyone needing a GPS. I like the fact it gives you your speed and direction. The list of restrants is very comprehensive and accurate. I'm amazed at how easy it is to use and find locations.

TopGarmin nuvi 750 Portable Automotive GPS
Strengths: The GPS give you everything you will be needing to get your to you destination. Its small compact design makes for a great addition to any cars dash.
Weakness: Have not found one to date.
This was purchased for my father who is 82 and he has always possessed great navigating skills, which after words I thought giving him a GPS as a gift, he just may have turned it down. But he blew us away at how he has excepted the GPS and its capability, was far beyond our expectation. This has turned out to have been a great gift, in addition a big help to him and our mother.

TopGarmin Nuvi 750 GPS
Strengths: This unit is easy to use and understand; usually is very quick to find the satellites and determnine position; always quickly finds the desired route; says street names with detailed instructions.
Weakness: Does not "ding ding" when approaching a turn. Sometimes it says the street too late, which trains you to always be watching the unit for upcoming turns.
Before buying the Garmin 750, I used the Magellan 4040. There were several things I didn't like about the Magellan, including that the map would go completely blank whenever it needed to recalculate. I returned the Magellan and bought the Garmin 750. Not only does it behave much better, but it's also an MP3 player, will read books to me through my speakers, and many other cool features. I do miss the "ding ding" though to let me know a turn is imminent. Best price was found at Costco.com.

TopNUVI 750 YES!!
Strengths: 1. It gets you where your want to go 2. Acquires signal within 10 seconds, even on cloudy days. 3. The POI feature is superb (see below). 4. Programs intermediate stops 5. Bright screen
Weakness: 1. No manual. 2. No protective carrying case 3.It doesn’t know one-way streets. 4. There are times the ‘fastest’ or ‘shortest’ routes are “not”, but it gets you where you want to go
I bought the Nuvi 750 because I got it a VERY good price ($280). It did not come with the latest Firmware 2.6 installed but that was a simple fix once you download Firmware 2.6 from the Garmin website; just go to the Garmin Nuvi 750 webpage and follow the prompts.
No manual was included; it does come with an abbreviated ‘Quick Start Manual’. Garmin will send a hard copy of the complete manual if requested. For many, especially experienced gps users this is a not a big factor but for me this is important as I like to be able to refer to a manual when a question arises. It is also helpful in telling you the little nuances and shortcuts that are available in system programming and usage.
I have my unit mounted on the windshield to the left of the driver. It acquires the satellite signal very quickly. I have never had a signal reception failure even in days when it was raining and heavily overcast.
Best in highly congested areas (be they city, commercial, or residential). Also of good us in rural areas but of lesser use in Interstate highway driving; I have not tried it in a highly congested city where there are a lot of high-rise buildings. However, even in using the 750 in congested (non high rise areas) or rural areas there is a question as to whether to take the proposed ‘shortest’ or the ‘fastest’ route. Thankfully you can bring up a map showing the entire route that each will take so you can decide by looking at both maps. And the ‘Where Am I’ feature is also helpful.
A 12 volt dc power and battery charging cord is provided but I opted to buy an optional ac power cord. This enabled me to either charge the battery while in the house and also to program the routes that I would take without having to do them in the car. It certainly is not a necessity but for me, it is a definite ‘nicety’.
One way streets are not recognized nor are areas that are highly commercially congested or have a high frequency of traffic lights.
The Garmin 750 has the ability of programming several intermediate stops in a given route. Although by no means a significant breakthrough it is a nicety that can be done before embarking on the designated route.
The large 4.3” screen is very useful when programming but lesser so during operation as the ‘voice’ commands are the ones I go by.
The TTS (text to speech) is also appreciably useful, not indispensable if you use the ’10 blocks are equivalent to about a mile’ rule but yes, it is also a definite nicety
I’ve been caught several times being instructed to go the wrong way on a one-way street. However, the unit quickly recovers and “recalculates” when I refuse. It also does a great job of “recalculating” whenever I stray from its designated course. I purposely ‘strayed’ several times and was quite pleased as to its ability to adjust, set a new course, and continue my travel to destination.
POI success: I once had an electronic accessory malfunction while on a trip. I pulled off to the side of the road and brought up POI and typed in “Radio Shack”. I was directed to one less than a mile away where I bought the necessary fix and was soon merrily on my way. Thanks, POI
I do not have any opinions regarding the FM, MP3 player, or Photo Viewer.
Vigilance and care have to be exercised so that the unit does not distract the driver while operating the car.
This indeed is a boon to serious drivers especially those who operate in areas they seldom use.

TopGarmin Nuvi 750 GPS
Strengths: Extremely user friendly for us non-computer people, 4.3 widescreen for easy viewing, great vocal directions and accuracy.
Weakness: The so called user manual is terrible. No screen protector or carrying case.
We have been looking into a GPS and read lots of review. Let's face it, nothing is perfect but this comes close and you can't please everyone.
The main reason for us purchasing the 750 unit was its user friendly to us non-computer people. The 4.3" widescreen is super for us. Don't have to strain to see the screen and you get vocal directions as well. At night, the vocal directions are very helpful. How many times have you passed a road you were supposed to turn on? Well, this unit reminds you a few times before you're supposed to turn. Some reviews didn't like the audio but it was great for us.
The very first time we plugged it into our Ford Ranger and the satellite came up within 2-l/2 to 3 minutes at most. I was pleasantly surprised because some reviews say it took them longer. We live out in the country with lots and lots of trees with no problem.
Living out in the country, we were amazed to see small lanes and roads appear on the screen as we traveled along our route. We even tried to trick it and went past our final destination to see what it would do. It immediately tried to take us to the next road and turn us around, we went the opposite way and sat in a parking lot for 30 seconds to see what it would do. It recalculated our directions and gave us new directions to our final destinations. Awesome.
We purchased through Amazon for $451 + $7.87 s/h with NO tax.
As for the manual, well that's another story. You can read through the several page booklet but you'll find better tips on the Internet. When ordering, you might want to purchase a carrying case as we're taking it with us or putting it in the glove box so it doesn't tempt someone to break into the vehicle. The 750 does not come with bluetooth capabilities so if you're interested in that option go with the 760 model for a few hundred dollars more. Not worth it to us.
We are 100% satisfied with this unit.

TopGreat and worth the wait...
Strengths: Unit works great, is fast, and is loaded with nice features over my 660. Save the 200 on bluetooth for an earbud.
Weakness: No case, sattelite accuracy screen, wall charger, or screen protector. Dont count on the FM transmitter working unless you're W-E-L-L away from a city.
Thanks to a broken window in my parking garage in DC, my nuvi 660 was stolen and I needed a replacement. Dont realize how much you miss these things till they're gone.
Nuvi 750 was worth the wait. Only dissapointments are that it doesnt come with a wall charger or a carrying case. Also a screen protector is well worth it (after my 660 experience).
Lastly I miss the screen that allows you to watch the sattelites being aquired and tells you the accuracy of the signals.
I didnt use the bluetooth or FM transmitter in DC. Too noisy and much better other alternatives. Got the 750 and saved the 200 dolaars. As a side note... the same traffic receiver works on this unit as well.
hope this helps.
Jim
PS... love the route planning and multi-destination feature too...

TopFind you way anywhere
Strengths: Touch screen operation. Recalculates routs quickly when you make a wrong turn or have to divert due to traffic situations.
Weakness: Doesn't always find locations using buisness name only.
I was very surprised that the unit could find even the most remote places. Just put the address in and follow the directions. Having the voice directions allows you to keep you eyes on the road and traffic. It gives you the speed limits for the interstate and even tells you how fast you are traveling. There is a lot more functionality to this unit than the manuals describe. I would suggest having a passenger manipulate the unit on your every day errands to become familiar with it.

TopValentine's Day gift! Garmin Nuvi 750
Strengths: 4.3" widescreen display. Text-to-speech. Sorts multiple destinations for most efficient route. Has "Where Am I?" feature which shows you closest hospitals, police stations, gas stations, etc.
Weakness: No bluetooth, no European maps included with unit, otherwise same as Nuvi 770 but $250 less.
I was excited to find the Garmin Nuvi 750 at newegg.com for $51 less than the membership warehouse store (whose name rhymes with slams), plus saved $37 on sales tax. Nice. I had my sights set on the Nuvi 360 which was on sale at another warehouse store, but I liked the larger widescreen display and the multiple destination routing on the 750. The 750 also can mark your car location when you park, so that you can use it to find your car after shopping, etc. Thanks to my Valentine for buying me the Garmin Nuvi 750. Geocaching here we come.
Update - 3-1-2008:
I received the unit and have been using it for about a week. It is easy to use, the voices used for the TTS feature are clear, the display bright and easy to read. I have not yet listened to music via the on-board media player but I have listened to a few minutes of "books on tape" in the Audible format. They sound good. I added some software to my laptop that enables me to download geocaching waypoint information to the unit. The locations are added to the Nuvi as "Favorites", which is a list of user generated locations. Easy to use. The on-board storage is large enough for storing many pictures, music and Audible files, and geocaching waypoints, but I added a 2 GB SD card to expand that. I am very happy with the purchase.

TopNuvi 750
Strengths: Nice bright screen. Nice Media Player. Good Satellite signal.
Weakness: Weak FM Transmitter
When I first got the Nuvi 750, I upgraded it to the latest version of the software 4.10 and after the upgrade, the turn prompts were coming after I already executed the turn. Yesterday I ran the loader again and downloaded 4.20 and new voice prompts and now the voice prompts are a lot more accurate. I like the media player for playing my MP3s in the car but the FM Transmitter is a little weak (maybe because of regulations) so occasionally, I get some static or bleed over from radio stations.
Overall, a good unit as long as you upgrade to 4.20 software version and download new voice prompts. With the 4.10 version, the latent voice prompt issue was making me a little crazy.
Lots of built in Points of Interest (POIs) but some are out of date. Ability to route plan and save up to 10 custom routers is a nice feature.

TopGarmin Software Update Turned my NUVI 750 into a...
Strengths: Widescreen, Multi-point routing, Text to speech
Weakness: After forced update to version 4.0, announces turn after you are through intersection, forcing you to look at unit, a safety hazard
I had a well running Nuvi 750 for about 4 days! Then I made the mistake of registering it and Garmin FORCED the 4.0 update on me, that made my 750 essentially a BRICK. It now announces turns after you are through intersection, forcing you to look at unit, a safety hazard. It has now been 2 months and still no fix from Garmin. Four days of use out of a $400 unit, gee I guess according to some people I should be happy to pay Garmin $100/day for a GPS unit that actually works, I DON'T THINK SO! I do think we need to look into a class-action lawsuit, as I believe Garmin is too busy putting out new units to worry about fixing the existing units they broke in the first place.

TopVery nice GPS, Beautiful Screen, Some Downsides.
Strengths: Good sized, beautiful screen. Detailed Maps. Slow to lock on to satellites
Weakness: Slow to lock on to satellites. Does not include carrying case.
It comes with everything that you absolutely need to bring this in your car, but they were a little too cheap to include a carrying case. It isn't a big issue because you can buy one somewhere else, but it would have been nice if they would have included it. This GPS is very nice. It is a little slow to lock on to satellites initially when you start your trip, but after that, it is amazing. I use it in the car and it is quite reliable, very easy to use and great GUI.

TopGood price with lots of features!
Strengths: Not too expensive, sleek design, wide screen, FM transmitter, Garmin brand
Weakness: Wish it had bluetooth
I bought this for my sisters who needs the GPS to use in Thailand. Apparently we have to buy the Thailand maps in addition but it is still much cheaper than buying the unit in Thailand. So far, I love the wide screen which make my life a lot easier on the road. The first time we used this unit, it took quite a while to locate the satellite but I never had the problem after that. So far it's been working GREAT!

TopEasy to Use GPS
Strengths: Good Size Screen, Easy To USe, Fast Satellite Signal Pick Up
Weakness: Difficult to Use Car Charger
This GPS is very easy to use. I rarely have to refer to manual. The screen is simple and clear. Once you turn it on, it picks up satellite signal within minute. The only thing Garmin could improve is Car Charger connection. It should be easier to connect. Other than this, it is handy to have this tool in your car.

Topnuvi 750
Strengths: widescreen , slim profile, qwerty keypad
Weakness: no bluetooth, not portable
I had a 360 for awhile now I upgraded. I like the widescreen as it adds more real estate but at a battery life cost (5 hours compared to 9 w/ the 360). I love that it does not have an antenna that you flip up everytime and the new firmware gives it faster satellite detection. However, I miss having bluetooth on it since now laws in California don't let you use a cell phone while driving. Also even though its slimmer in design, I feel it is not as portable as the 360, plus it does not include a case.

TopNuvi 750 GPS
Strengths: Small form factor, nice accuracy and quality of unit
Weakness: Slow to first acquire satellite signal (apparently fixed with an update, waiting to update)
I have been holding out for a GPS, and finally scored a NUVI 750 widescreen. Very happy with the size, display, touch screen. FM transmitter will come in handy. Nice unit for the price.

TopGarmin 750 GPS
Strengths: Good display size, user friendly, good audio volume, quickly aquires satellites, excellent features, slim, trim and lightweight.
Weakness: Not bluetooth capable
Since "Blue tooth capable" was not a consideration for me, the Garmin 750 was the perfect choice in the 700 series.
I totally appreciate the large display, ease of operation and loud, clear audio. The POI's have been quite sufficient thus far. No buyers remorse on this model.

TopGood Unit
Strengths: Easy to use, good display.
Weakness: Often slow to acquire satellites, no owner's manual.
This is the only GPS I've owned, but I found it very easy to use. Sometimes it takes a couple minutes to acquire a good satellite signal, other times it's almost instantaneous. Same location, same conditions. Also, Garmin is too cheap to include a complete user's manual. They include a Quick Start Manual, but to see the real manual, you have to visit their web site and download the .pdf file which you can print if you want. To their credit, after a strongly worded email to Customer Service, they promised to send me a manual.

TopNuvi 750 great if you need multi-addresses routing....
Strengths: very good mapping
Weakness: FM transmitter too weak to overpower static. Garmin elinimated some worthy options
Compared to the less expensive Nuvi 350, the Nuvi 750 offers a wider screen, multi-destinations routing and an FM transmitter. The wider screen is nice but not essential. The FM transmitter is too weak and it is almost impossible to eliminate static. The multi-destinations routing is very usefull which is essential for people who need to be mapped to a number of addresses on one route. The Audible book player is also essential for me. I still love Garmin products, but they eliminated a couple features which were nice to have. Still a great product.

TopVery good buy
Strengths: big screen, sleek design.
Weakness: Hight price.
I used a Magellan 3000T for over a year, I was very happy with it. However, after my experience with their customer experience due to the problem with my car charger(it's been over 2 months and still havn't received it, they promised 1 week! I called a couple times and everytime got same answer). Now I switched to garmin, I really like the sleek design, and big and bright screen, easy of use. But there's some features I miss on my magellan, like the quick spell, the route exclusion, etc. But considering the customer service, I don't regret at all. Hightly recommended.

Topnuvi 750 GPS (Vehicle, 4.3" LCD)
Strengths: Big LCD screen give clear instruction, easy to follow. The accessories are very useful.
Weakness: The FM transmitter doesn't work well. Cannot play music on FM.
We just got this GPS. This one is very easy to use, and the instruction is clear. The screen is pretty big so you can easyly follow the map and it find out the map very quickly. Even you missed the correct instruction, it will find out another option very fast. Cool product

TopNuvi 750 GPS
Strengths: It is easy to use and understand and comes loaded with nice features. The widesrceen is easy to see and read when driving. Speaks actual street names.
Weakness: No case included.
Love this GPS. I already have a built in one on my car but I wanted to get one that I could carry around when I am renting cars. This one fits the bill perfectly.

TopNuvi 750 GPS
Strengths: Good screen size Speaks actual street names. Does routes quickly and recalculates routes fast in case of changes
Weakness: No ac charger no case
Great GPS unit.
Less than other Garmins as it doesn't have bluetooth, which i dont need.
I don't know about other GPS makers but you have to compare closely the Garmin models as one may include an AC charger another one wont.
One has case the other model doesn't.
All in all works great

TopReady out of the box
Strengths: Pre-loaded, decently charged.
Weakness: Not packaged with an AC charger, no included software.
I've owned a Nuvi 350 for a few years, and would recommend it as a good GPS. I purchased the 750 for less than I originally paid for the 350, and am happy with its performance so far. The maps are up to date (2008) and it has been accurate up to this point. Boot up and sat acquisition are quick. It is taking some work to get used to the differences in menus, i.e. the Spell Name function is under POI instead of being one of the first choices available. The unit is somewhat slimmer than the 350 but wider, and has the antenna built in rather than flip out. Good product, highly recommend at a good sale price.

TopIs not perfect, but nothing is
Strengths: very reliable 99.9%. Very easy to use. I registered it with Garmin. When it got stolen, they will not allow anyone to register it, or download maps! This is a major plus.
Weakness: Gets lost, FM transmitter doesn't work. Very slow to upload maps.
Mine was just stolen, and I am going to buy a Garmin again. Enough said?
While it has flaws, the basic idea worked very well. Sometimes in Chicago loop, it can't figure out where it is. It has me at a street that I am not even close to. The FM transmitter will not work in northern Illinois because there are no dead freq. I am not sure what the benefit is to using the FM transmitter since you can't then listen to the radio.
Also, it takes a long time to upload maps from the current update. As people had stated, if you miss a turn, it takes time to recalculate. In 2+ years, I have had only 2 times when the poi were wrong. One time I NEEDED gas and the poi was no where near one. The other, I had a flat tire, and it had a firestone in Elmhurst, but it really was in Naperville (20 mile difference). And the phone numbers of the POIs are a great benefit. I use it as the yellow pages a lot.
If your unit is stolen and registered with Garmin, they will prevent anyone from registering it, or downloading maps to your stolen GPS. It would be nice if they could let the police know where the person that is trying to download is located.

TopYOU'LL LOVE IT!
Strengths: SUPER FAST RE-CALCULATING; EASY TO USE SCREEN, FAST SETUP
Weakness: LACK OF ROUTE NUMBERS
HAVEN'T GOTTEN LOST SINCE I GOT IT! SUPER EASY TO PROGRAM; BRIGHT SCREEN UNDER ALL LIGHTING CONDITIONS; VOICE PROMPTS TIMELY AND CLEAR. ONLY COMPLAINT IS THAT NAMED STREETS THAT ALSO HAVE A ROUTE NUMBER SHOULD DISPLAY IT, AS HWY NUMBER SIGNS ARE MUCH EASIER TO NOTICE AND READ THAN THE OFTEN MISSING STREET SIGNS.
