Description

BRAVIA Theater Sync : As a leader in products with HDMI connectivity, Sony has created BRAVIA Theatre Sync to go beyond simple audio and video transmission. When combined with a select number of BRAVIA LCD televisions and other Sony audio and video products, control functions will be transmitted via the HDMI cable. With "One Touch Play", operations that took several steps have been reduced to one. Press the PLAY button on the remote, watch the audio and/or the video component(s) turn on, then the BRAVIA television will turn on and switch to the correct video input. Simple Easy BRAVIA Theatre Sync. Digital MEDIA Port : As the demand for Digital content continues to be strong, here's the challenge: how do you integrate music in various forms into a home theater system? The answer: Sony's Digital MEDIA Port (DMP). Together with one of the DMP accessories (sold separately), this proprietary interface adds networking and connectivity to the options of home theater systems and components, connects with various devices, which provide the ability to control and power devices while making set up easy and operation simple.

Streamlined and Reasonable Theatre In A Box

Strengths: Two adjustable stand speakers, 5-Disc DVD changer, color coded and capped speaker wires provided, accepts adapters for Bluetooth and iPod devices, decent wattage output for 5.1 system, HDMI output

Weakness: No receiver and no level equalizer, SINGLE grouped input and single grouped output, standard def DVDs only, some features only via remote, 6.1 and 7.1 options on market

I bought this from an online retailer which sells both Sony DAV-HDX500 and the Sony DAV-HDX500/I with the difference that the DAV-HDX500/I model includes the iPod adaptor in the box. For around the $400 you get a simple 5speaker.1subwoofer surround sound system that is easy to setup since there is only 1 input and 1 output set. For example, the Digital Coax Input and Optical Input are the SAME...

DAV-HDX500

Strengths: Great Sound. Simple to operate.

Weakness: No graphic equalizer or bass/treble control equivalent.

I just hooked up this system and the sound quality is amazing. Assembly took about an hour since you had to put together the stands for the front speakers(keep a screwdriver handy) and setup took less than 5 minutes. It auto calibrates the sound based on your speaker setup. Many controls are accessible only via the remote.

Good bang for the buck

Strengths: Sound Quality, DVD upconverts, Clean bass, Sleek look

Weakness: This speaker wire, no equalizer or any form of adjusting sound, cannot choose desired resolution

First of all, I would like to say that I was very amazed when hearing it initially. I was not expecting much bass coming from a small driver, but that thing hits nicely. It goes along well with my Bravia TV since they both have the same styling, so that was a big plus also. There were a couple of drawbacks though. The speaker wire was very thing, and is hard to change since the end of the cable...

looks and sounds great, but limited

Strengths: - great sound and looks

Weakness: - no equalizer or tone control, no DivX support

This system does sound very good, and it has very nice design and will fit in a room very well. The problem is that Sony left out a few too many features. As most people have mentioned, there is no tone control or equalizer. That is often very important to get maximum clarity of movie dialogue. Another big limitation is that the DVD changer doesn't support DivX. That's dumb when you can get $40...

DAV-HDX500 Home THeater System

Strengths: Sleek design

Weakness: Thin speaker cable. DVD player load slow

Overall good value. I bought it for $350 at circuit city. It is perfect for my bedroom. You can't beat this price for a whole system. I save a lot of space replacing my sound system with the DAV-HDSX500 HTS. I would recommend this to anyone with a budget and space constraint. Sound came out suprisely good with those small speakers.

Sony Bravia Theater DAV-HDX500

THE GOOD: Home theater in a box with five-disc DVD changer; 480p, 720p, or 1080i HDMI output; height adjustable stand for main left and right speakers; spunky subwoofer; automatic speaker-calibration system; XM Radio-ready with XM HD Surround processing; decent input selection includes component video pass-through and digital audio jacks. THE BAD: Better for movies than music; does not include...
