Nikon Remote Shutter Cord Simple to Use on D200 But...
Strengths: Simple, easy to use, also has a locking mechanism to keep the shutter open when desired.
Weakness: Expensive. Can be difficult to find available for purchase, like many of the Nikon D200 accessories because of huge demand and small supply.
This is Nikon's own brand of remote shutter cord, and this model is the simplest and least expensive of their remote cords that fit the D200. It is still very expensive. It is quality-made, however, better than the no-name 10-pin brands, although I would bet they work fine too. There is an optional extension cord, but I find the length of the original cord is sufficient for my uses, which is...
Good performance
Strengths: Holding feel
Weakness: Nothing
MC-30 is my best partner. Previously I owned F5 and used with third party remote cord. Holdimg feel was very bad!! And I mistook many times in taking night view photos. I purchased MC-30 1 month before then my issue was gone. I don't recommend to Nikon users to purchase third party remote cable.
MC-30 Remote Cord
Strengths: Works well on the D300
Weakness: Expensive
I upgraded from the D80, so I had to purchase a significantly more expensive remote and it is not wireless. This cord works well on my D300 and gives you the opportunity to take many more shots than with the self-timer alone. There are a lot of off-brand wireless and wired shutter release systems that are much cheaper, but I only trust Nikon.

Least expensive remote for Nikon D200
Strengths: well made, work well
Weakness: price
This is the least expensive option from Nikon to control your D200. There is no need to buy the much more expensive MC-36, because MC-30 works just as well and most of options built into MC-36 can be controlled from the camera itself.
